Volvo Car Malaysia has officially introduced the Volvo EX30, the company’s smallest and fastest electric car to date. The EX30, their entry-level completely electric SUV, is their most cheap EV yet, and it intends to compete with luxury small SUVs such as the Smart #1 and the upcoming Zeekr X.

Volvo EX30 Malaysia Pricing and Availability

The Volvo EX30 comes with a 5-year vehicle warranty, 8-year battery warranty, a 5-year inclusive service package and roadside assistance, and 5-year complimentary Google and data connectivity.

For now, the EX30 will be offered as a fully-imported CBU model and Volvo aims to commence CKD local assembly in 2025.

The Volvo EX30 is offered in three variants and here’s the official pricing in Malaysia:

  • Volvo EX30 Plus (Single-motor) – RM188,888
  • Volvo EX30 Ultra (Single-motor) – RM208,888
  • Volvo EX30 Ultra Twin Performance (Dual-motor) – RM228,888

The Volvo EX30 comes in 5 colours – Cloud Blue, Moss Yellow, Crystal White, Vapour Grey and Onyx Black. All options are equipped with Indigo interior with Textile & Nordico upholstery and Denim decor panels with blue air vent panels.

Volvo Car Malaysia offers two equipment levels for the single-motor variant of the EX30. The EX30 Ultra for both Single and Twin-motor variants get all the bells and whistles, however, the Plus model loses out on Park Pilot Assist, a 360-degree camera system, powered front seats and a panoramic sunroof. The Plus model still comes with a rear-view camera.

As part of their initial offer, Volvo Car Financial Services is giving a step-up financing program starting at RM1,588 per month and a variable financing rate of 1.88% for the first 100 orders. Malaysian clients may now place EX30 orders through Volvo Malaysia’s online store.

Volvo EX30 Key Specs and Features

The Volvo EX30 is based on Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) EV platform, and it shares several features with the Smart #1 and Zeekr X. In terms of dimensions, it is smaller than the Volvo XC40, with a wheelbase of 2650mm instead of 2702mm. The EX30 measures 1550mm height, 1838mm wide, and 4233mm long. The Volvo XC40 is 1652mm tall, 1873mm wide, and 4440mm long.

In Malaysia, the Volvo EX30 comes in three different models. Across the board, the EX30 will be fitted with the bigger 69kWh NMC battery, which provides up to 476 kilometers of range. All models come equipped with 19-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels.

The two cheaper EX30 models (Plus and Ultra) have a single motor driving the rear wheels, producing 200kW (268hp) and 343Nm of torque. It takes 5.3 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km/h and can reach a top speed of 180 km/h.

Meanwhile, the range-topping Ultra Twin Performance variant has a combined power of 315kW (422hp) and 543Nm of torque. The AWD variant can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds and has a speed limit of 180 km/h. With the extra front motor, the range is somewhat decreased to up to 450km, which is still quite good and 50km greater than the Smart #1 Brabus.

The Volvo EX30 features a Tesla-style minimalistic cabin, and Volvo says that it has the lowest carbon footprint in its portfolio due to significant use of sustainable and organically derived materials. The vehicle’s functions are controlled via a big 12.3-inch tablet-like touchscreen in the dashboard.

The instrument cluster and heads-up display (HUD) have been removed, but physical controls such as the signal indicator stalks and gear selector on the steering column remain. Google powers the infotainment system, and updates are delivered over-the-air (OTA). If you want to connect your own smartphone, it also supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Instead of having speakers mounted on the individual doors, Volvo has moved the speakers into a single-piece Harman Kardon Premium soundbar mounted above the dashboard. As a result, the doors offer ample of cubby space to store your water bottles and loose items.

In terms of charging, the Volvo EX30 enables DC charging up to 175kW, allowing the vehicle to be charged from 10-80% in under 30 minutes.

In Malaysia, Volvo will only provide an 11kW onboard charger for AC charging. According to Malaysia’s official specification sheet, AC charging from 0 to 100% takes 8 hours.
